After going through approximately three decades of urban decline, the Pyrmont-Ultimo area finally went throught urban renewal!
In 1984, the state government developed a program that would renew the Pyrmont-Ultimo area.

In 1992, with the guidance of the government extended, the City West Development Corporation was formed.
This corporation had the job of redeveloping the entire Pyrmont-Ultimo area. There job was to basically encourage more people to move to the area and also increase the workers in the work area. They did this by developing more residential nd commercial facilities.

This allowed the Darling Habour area to became the main area for tourism and entertainment. This arrangement went on for the 2003 Rugby World Cup which was also held in Australia.

Reasons for Urban Renewal in the Pyrmont-Ultimo area.
In the 1900s, Pyrmont was one of the busiest and best port facilities in Australia. Knowing this, the government would have wanted to have that again. Redeveloping the area was a great success an beneficial for everyone. It gave many people in the 'white-collar' industry a job and many others just a place to live. Also, the Pyrmont-Ultimo area was apart of the 2000 Olympic Games. If that area wasn't renewed than what would have other countries thought of Australia?
Impact of Urban Renewal on the physical and human environment.
Urban renewal had a positive impact on the physical environment as the area was no longer experiencing urban decay. The physical environmental had improved immensly. It also provided a place to live for many people and jobs for many. If urban renewal did not occur in the Pyrmont-Ultimo area, than who knows what type of place Sydney would be today.
Urban renewal had a positive impact on the human environment in the Pyrmont-Ultimo area. Ever since the redevelopment of the area, the popualtion had been rising and we can again say, if the area had not been renewed that who know what the human environment would be like. Would it be empty and dead? or Full of people?
